PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
As professional sports equipment, the material selection of cycling clothes directly affects the comfort, safety, and performance of the riding experience. There are significant differences in the functional requirements of materials in different cycling scenarios (such as road cycling, mountain cycling, long-distance cycling) and environments (high temperature, low temperature, wind and rain weather). The following will classify the characteristics, advantages, and applicable scenarios of mainstream cycling clothing materials according to their core functions.
1、 Quick drying and breathable materials: suitable for high temperatures and prolonged sweating
During hot weather or high-intensity cycling, the amount of sweat in the human body increases significantly. Quick drying and breathable materials are the core choice for cycling clothes, with the core goal of quickly absorbing sweat and accelerating evaporation to avoid discomfort caused by clothing sticking.
1. Polyester fiber: the most mainstream basic material
Polyester fiber (commonly known as "polyester") is currently the most widely used basic material in the field of cycling clothing, accounting for over 80%. Its advantages lie in:
Excellent quick drying performance: The fiber surface is smooth, with a moisture absorption rate of only 0.4% (much lower than cotton's 8% -10%), and sweat can quickly transfer from the skin surface to the outer layer of clothing, accelerating evaporation through air flow. Drying can usually be completed within 30 minutes (cotton material takes 2-3 hours);
Strong durability: anti wrinkle, anti stretch, can maintain the shape even after multiple washes, and is not easily deformed;
High cost-effectiveness: The cost is lower than other functional fibers, suitable for basic fabrics of entry-level to professional cycling clothing.
The common application form is "polyester fiber blending", such as matching with a small amount of spandex (increasing elasticity) or nylon (improving wear resistance), giving consideration to quick drying and freedom of movement. Typical examples are Decathlon RC series cycling clothes and Giant basic road cycling clothes.
2. Nylon (polyamide fiber): a balance between quick drying and wear resistance
Nylon is lighter and lighter than polyester fiber, and has stronger wear resistance (twice as strong as cotton and 1.5 times as strong as polyester fiber), while retaining its quick drying properties, making it suitable for mountain cycling or long-distance cycling (easily rubbed clothing). Its characteristics include:
Moisture absorption and quick drying: The moisture absorption is about 4.5%, slightly higher than polyester fiber, but sweat spreads faster and the evaporation efficiency is close to polyester;
Tear resistance: The fiber has strong toughness and is not easily damaged when facing tree branches or ground friction. It is commonly used in worn parts such as elbows and shoulders of mountain cycling clothing;
